Melissa and Rebecca developed the talent of chip carving in 1999 after their dad and brother started a few years earlier. They both did really well for being just young teenagers. They have traveled to wood carving shows around the midwest and western states to sell their products. Check out the pictures below:
They use chip carving knives to carve the wood--mostly basswood, but they have also carved a few butternut wood products.
The plate and the two bigger boxes behind it are things Rebecca carved. The bigger box on the right is butternut wood. The other products are basswood.
This recipe box is one that Melissa carved.
